How BeeDynamic built a custom conversational sales assistant for Zwillingsduft.ch – reducing purchase friction in a category where customers can’t smell the product before buying, and driving a measurable, sustained increase in conversion rate and orders.
The Problem
Selling fragrance online has one fundamental problem that no amount of great copy or beautiful photography can fully solve: you cannot smell a product through a screen. For a store like zwillingsduft.ch — which sells fragrance dupes of luxury perfumes to Swiss customers who may never have encountered the brand before — this creates a real conversion barrier. The visitor arrives, browses, reads the scent descriptions, and hesitates. Not because the product is wrong for them. Because they’re not sure which one is right.
The traditional e-commerce solution is a quiz. But a static quiz page creates friction of its own — it pulls the visitor away from the store, interrupts the shopping flow, and feels like homework rather than discovery. BeeDynamic’s solution was different: bring the quiz into the conversation, inside a chat widget, without ever leaving the page.
The Solution: A Conversational Sales Assistant
BeeDynamic designed and built a custom conversational sales assistant – integrated directly into the Shopify store – that acts as a knowledgeable shop assistant available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The assistant is not a generic chatbot. It is built specifically for the zwillingsduft.ch catalogue, the fragrance dupe shopping journey, and the psychology of a Swiss customer who wants confidence before purchasing.
UI & UX Design
The widget appears as a floating chat icon in the bottom right corner – the position trained by years of live chat usage to signal “help is available here.” A notification badge creates the impression of an active, responsive assistant. Opening the widget reveals a clean chat panel with the Zwillingsduft logo, the status indicator “Online · Antwortet sofort” (Online · Responds immediately), and four immediate action buttons that define the four primary reasons a visitor might need assistance:
- Quiz starten — personalised fragrance recommendation
- Marke suchen — find the dupe for a specific luxury brand
- Bestseller — social proof entry point for undecided visitors
- Neue Düfte — new arrivals for returning customers
These four entry points cover the four most common visitor states: “I don’t know what I want”, “I know exactly what I want to duplicate”, “I want what other people are buying”, and “I’ve been here before — what’s new?” Every visitor type has an immediate, relevant path forward — without typing a single word.
The Guided Quiz Flow
The quiz is the most powerful conversion tool in the assistant. Triggered by “Quiz starten” or by natural language inputs matching predefined intent patterns, it guides the visitor through a structured 4-question sequence — each question presented as a single-choice button selection with a progress indicator (1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4). Questions cover gender preference, scent family, intensity, and occasion — gathering just enough information to deliver a confident, personalised recommendation without overwhelming the visitor.
The result is a product recommendation that feels curated rather than algorithmic — and more importantly, that arrives at the end of a conversation the visitor chose to have, rather than a form they felt obliged to fill.
Brand Search — The Direct Path to Purchase
For visitors who already know which luxury fragrance they want to duplicate, the “Marke suchen” flow provides the fastest possible path to the right product. The visitor selects a designer brand — Tom Ford®, Dior®, Byredo®, Louis Vuitton®, and others — and the assistant immediately surfaces the corresponding zwillingsduft.ch dupe as a product card directly inside the chat window.
Each product card displays everything the visitor needs to make a purchase decision without leaving the chat:
- Product name and dupe reference (“Inspired by [Original]®”)
- Savings badge (“CHF 225 gespart” — CHF 225 saved)
- Olfactory tags (Woody, Citrus, Fresh, Floral…)
- Price with original price crossed out — value anchoring at the moment of decision
- “In den Warenkorb” button — add to cart without exiting the chat
- “Ansehen →” link for visitors who want to see the full product page
The ability to add a product to the cart directly from within the chat is the single most important conversion feature. It removes the final step that causes abandonment: the navigation away from the discovery moment to a product page, where the visitor might get distracted, second-guess themselves, or simply close the tab.
Technical Architecture
The assistant was built as a custom solution integrated natively with the Shopify store’s product catalogue and cart system via Shopify’s GraphQL API. The conversational logic is built on a structured decision-tree model with predefined intent mapping — designed specifically for the fragrance dupe shopping journey rather than generic natural language understanding. This approach delivers the reliability and speed that a conversion-focused tool requires: no latency from external AI API calls, no unpredictable responses, and complete control over every product recommendation and cart interaction.
A fixed disclaimer is always visible at the bottom of the chat: “Duftzwillinge – inspiriert von den Besten – keine Originale” (Fragrance twins – inspired by the best – not originals). Legal clarity maintained throughout the entire shopping experience.
“The best sales assistant doesn’t answer every possible question. It asks the right four questions — and then puts the product in the cart.”
— Arbron Gashi, CEO · BeeDynamic Group LLCResults
Since the conversational sales assistant launched, zwillingsduft.ch has recorded a clear, sustained improvement in conversion rate — from 2.3% to 3.4%, an increase of nearly 48% in approximately 4 months. Total orders have grown in parallel, and the improvement has remained stable rather than representing a short-term spike.
The pattern is consistent with what the research on conversational commerce shows: visitors who engage with a guided shopping assistant convert at significantly higher rates than those who navigate the store independently, because the assistant resolves the primary barrier to purchase — uncertainty about which product to choose — at the exact moment it arises.
For a fragrance store where that uncertainty is structural (you cannot smell the product), a well-designed conversational tool is not a feature. It is infrastructure.
What This Case Teaches Us
The zwillingsduft.ch chatbot case study demonstrates a principle that applies far beyond fragrance: the job of a conversational sales tool is not to answer every possible question. It is to eliminate the specific friction that stops a specific type of customer from completing a specific purchase.
In this case, that friction was a single question: “which one is right for me?” Every feature of the assistant — the four entry-point buttons, the four-question quiz, the brand search with in-chat product cards, the add-to-cart button inside the chat window — exists to answer that question as quickly and confidently as possible, and then remove every remaining step between the answer and the purchase.
The result is a tool that doesn’t feel like a chatbot. It feels like a shop assistant who knows the catalogue, understands what you’re looking for, and hands you exactly the right product at exactly the right moment.
That’s what good conversational commerce design does. And it’s measurable.
