For years, if your Instagram post or TikTok video appeared in Google Search, you had no way of knowing. That data simply did not exist inside Google’s own tools. On 7 July 2026, Google changed that permanently — introducing Platform Properties in Google Search Console. Here is everything you need to know and exactly how to use it.
What are Google Search Console Platform Properties?
Platform Properties are a new type of property inside Google Search Console — sitting alongside the website properties you already know — that let you connect and track your social media and video accounts directly inside GSC. Once connected, you can see exactly how your Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube content performs in Google Search and Google Discover.
The feature was announced on 7 July 2026 by Moshe Samet, Product Manager Lead for Search Console, on the Google Search Central Blog. On 29 July 2026, Search Engine Roundtable confirmed the rollout is now complete for all accounts globally.
The key shift: until now, Google Search Console only worked for properties you controlled at the domain level — your own websites. Platform Properties are the first Search Console properties you can verify without owning a domain. Social-only creators and brands with no website can now access Google Search performance data for the first time.
Why this matters — the black box is finally open
This is not a minor update. For years, one of the most frustrating blind spots in digital marketing was that social and video content competed for visibility in Google Search and Discover — but that visibility was completely invisible to marketers. If someone searched Google and landed on your TikTok video or Instagram profile, that traffic left no trace in any Google tool you could access.
Platform-native analytics (Instagram Insights, TikTok Analytics, YouTube Studio) show you what happens on those platforms — reach, likes, saves, follower growth. They do not show you what happens in Google. They cannot tell you which search queries are sending people to your posts, or how your social content ranks in Google Discover.
Platform Properties close that gap entirely. As one agency senior performance marketing manager described it: the update breaks the black box of understanding what drives discovery for social content. Until now, it was possible to see how a post performs once users find it, but there was no way of knowing what search terms actually brought them there in the first place.
Which platforms are supported?
Posts, Reels, and profile pages. Note: in July 2025, Instagram changed its policy to allow business accounts to opt in to appearing in Google Search results — making this integration particularly powerful for brands already optimizing their Instagram presence.
TikTok
Videos and profile pages. TikTok content has increasingly appeared in Google Search results for informational queries — now you can see exactly which videos are driving that discovery and from what search terms.
X (formerly Twitter)
Posts and profile pages. X content frequently appears in Google Search for branded and news queries. Platform Properties let you track which posts are gaining organic Google visibility.
YouTube
Videos and channel pages. YouTube is already deeply integrated with Google Search — Platform Properties give you granular data on how individual videos perform in both Google Search and Discover, complementing your existing YouTube Studio data.
Notably absent from the launch are Facebook and LinkedIn. Interestingly, the December 2025 experiment that preceded this feature included Facebook — its removal from the July 2026 launch may signal where Google believes search-driven social discovery is actually happening. Google has indicated more platforms could be added over time, so checking back periodically is worthwhile.
The three reports inside Platform Properties
1. Performance Report
The Performance Report is the most powerful view inside Platform Properties — and the one that will change how you create social content. It shows:
- Clicks — how many times someone clicked through from Google Search or Discover to your social content
- Impressions — how many times your content appeared in Google results
- CTR (Click-Through Rate) — the percentage of impressions that resulted in clicks
- Average Position — where your content typically appears in Google results
- Top Queries — the exact search terms people used to find your posts
- Top Posts — which specific pieces of content are generating the most Google discovery
The data is available at both the post level and the profile level, with filtering and sorting to surface your best performers. The query data in particular is transformative — knowing the exact search terms that lead people to your social content opens up SEO-informed social content strategies that were previously impossible.
2. Insights Report
The Insights Report provides a high-level overview of recent traffic trends, top-performing posts, and how people are discovering your account through Google. Think of it as the executive summary view — useful for quick weekly checks and for communicating social search performance to clients or stakeholders without diving into raw data.
3. Achievements
Achievements tracks growth milestones — for example, crossing a new total-click threshold from Search within a rolling 28-day period. Less analytically powerful than the first two reports, but useful for benchmarking progress and celebrating wins with teams and clients.
How to set up Platform Properties — step by step
Open Google Search Console
Go to search.google.com/search-console. Log in with the Google account associated with your business. If you do not have a Search Console account yet, create one — it is free and takes less than five minutes to set up your first website property.
Click “Add property” in the property selector
In the top left corner of Search Console, click the property selector dropdown. You will see your existing website properties listed. At the bottom, click “Add property.” If the option to add a platform property is not visible yet, the rollout has now completed globally as of 29 July 2026 — so it should be available in all accounts.
Select your platform
From the “Add property” screen, you will now see the option to select a platform property. Choose from Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube. Each platform must be added and verified separately — if you want to track all four, you will go through this process four times, each time creating a separate property.
Verify ownership via secure authorization
Follow the on-screen verification steps to securely authorize the connection to your social account. This is done through each platform’s own authentication system — Google never sees your social media password. The verification confirms that you control the account, not that you own the domain. Setup takes only a few minutes and requires no technical knowledge.
Wait up to 48 hours for data to appear
After the property is connected, Search Console begins collecting search performance data immediately — but it can take up to 48 hours before data appears in the Performance and Insights reports. Do not be concerned if the reports look empty immediately after setup. Come back the following day and the data should start populating.
Collect a baseline before optimizing
Before making any content changes based on the data, let the property run for at least 2-4 weeks to establish a meaningful baseline. Open the Performance Report and sort posts by clicks to identify which content already has Google search traction. These are your starting points for optimization — content that already drives Google discovery and can be amplified with a more deliberate approach.
Platform Properties vs Search Profiles — understanding the difference
One source of confusion in the coverage of this feature is the conflation of Platform Properties with Search Profiles, a separate Google feature that also launched in 2026. They are distinct tools with different purposes:
| Feature | Platform Properties | Search Profiles |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Analytics — see how your social content performs in Google | Public-facing profile page that consolidates a creator’s content |
| Visibility | Private — only you can see the data | Public — shareable page visible to anyone |
| Launch date | 7 July 2026 | June 2026 |
| Who it’s for | Any creator or brand with a social account | Qualified creators and publishers meeting Google’s criteria |
| What you get | Clicks, impressions, CTR, queries, top posts | A searchable profile page aggregating your content |
In short: Platform Properties are your analytics dashboard. Search Profiles are your public presence. Both are valuable — but they serve entirely different purposes and should not be confused with each other.
What this means for your content and SEO strategy
The strategic implications of Platform Properties go well beyond having a new dashboard to check. For businesses and agencies serious about digital marketing, this changes how social content should be planned, created, and optimized.
Treat social content as rankable content
The core message from Google’s announcement is explicit: social and video content earns visibility in Google Search and Discover, competing alongside webpages. This means every piece of content you publish on Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube should be approached with the same search intent thinking you apply to blog posts and web pages.
Captions, titles, and descriptions are not just for on-platform discovery — they are the signals Google uses to understand and rank your content in its search results. Writing your TikTok caption or YouTube description with relevant keywords, clear topic signals, and structured information will now measurably improve your Google Search performance for those pieces.
Use query data to inform your entire marketing strategy
The query data inside Platform Properties — the exact search terms people use to find your social posts in Google — is valuable far beyond social media. Those queries represent real search demand from your target audience. You can use them to:
- Identify high-intent keywords from social content and test them in on-site SEO campaigns
- Inform Google Ads keyword strategy with terms that already have proven organic demand
- Discover content topics your audience is actively searching for that you may not have covered on your website
- Understand which aspects of your product or service generate the most organic search curiosity
Cross-channel keyword alignment
One of the most powerful applications of Platform Properties data is keyword alignment across channels. When you find a search query that drives significant traffic to a social post, that same query should inform your website content, your Google Ads targeting, and your other social content. Platform Properties creates the data infrastructure for a genuinely integrated, search-first marketing strategy across every channel you operate.

Talk to our team →What Platform Properties does NOT do — important caveats
Understanding what Platform Properties does not do is as important as understanding what it does. Several common misconceptions are worth addressing directly:
- It does not affect your rankings. Connecting a Platform Property is a reporting and analytics feature only. Google has confirmed it does not directly influence how your social content ranks in Google Search.
- It only covers Google Search and Discover. The data shows you performance in Google’s surfaces — not on-platform reach, engagement, or the algorithmic distribution within Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube themselves. These reports complement your native analytics; they do not replace them.
- It is not the same as adding social profiles to your website’s schema markup. The longstanding practice of adding your social profile URLs to your website’s Organization or Person schema (the sameAs property) is a separate technique that helps Google associate your social profiles with your business entity. Both practices are valuable — but they are distinct.
- Facebook and LinkedIn are not yet supported. If your primary social channels are Facebook or LinkedIn, Platform Properties does not yet cover those. Keep monitoring for updates from Google on additional platform support.
The bigger picture: Google’s direction of travel
Platform Properties did not arrive in isolation. It is part of a clear directional shift in how Google thinks about search. The search results page in 2026 is significantly different from what it looked like five years ago — packed with video, user-generated content, AI-generated summaries, and social posts alongside traditional web pages.
Google is treating the entire web — including content published on platforms it does not own — as part of its search index. The introduction of Platform Properties formalizes this reality and gives marketers the tools to understand and act on it.
For brands and agencies, this raises the strategic stakes for everything published on social and video platforms. Content that used to be evaluated purely on likes, reach, and follower growth now has a new performance dimension: Google Search visibility. The brands that understand this shift and start building search intent into their social content strategy now will have a compounding advantage as Google continues to expand its indexing of social content.
This is closely related to the broader trend of AI SEO and Generative Engine Optimization — where content across all platforms, not just websites, feeds into how AI systems and search engines discover and recommend brands. Platform Properties is one piece of a larger puzzle that forward-thinking digital marketers need to understand holistically.
Action plan: what to do right now
Connect all four platforms today
The rollout is now complete for all accounts as of 29 July 2026. Open Search Console and add Platform Properties for every social account your business actively manages — Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube. Even if a channel is less active, the data is valuable and costs nothing to collect. You cannot go back and retrieve historical data you did not capture.
Wait 2-4 weeks, then audit your top performers
Once you have at least 2-4 weeks of data, open the Performance Report and sort by clicks. Identify your top 5-10 posts by Google Search traffic. Study what they have in common — the topics, the caption structure, the use of keywords, the content format. These are your templates for future content that is built to perform in both social feeds and Google Search.
Extract your top queries and cross-reference with your SEO strategy
Download the query data from your highest-performing Platform Properties. Compare it against your website’s keyword targets in Search Console. Look for gaps — queries driving social discovery that you are not targeting on your website — and add those to your content and SEO roadmap. This cross-channel keyword intelligence is one of the highest-value outputs Platform Properties makes possible.
Start writing captions and titles with search intent
For all new social and video content going forward, include relevant keywords naturally in captions, titles, and descriptions. You do not need to keyword-stuff — but treating your TikTok caption or YouTube description the way you would treat a blog post introduction (leading with the core topic, using natural language that matches how people search) will measurably improve your Google discovery over time.
Include Platform Properties data in your monthly reporting
Add a Platform Properties section to your standard marketing reports. Clients and stakeholders are increasingly aware that social media drives search discovery — being able to show them concrete Google performance data for social content (clicks, impressions, top queries) elevates the perceived value of your social media work and makes the ROI case much more concrete than engagement metrics alone.
